People Of Pef

This evening has been truly awesome. After the dives we came back to the resort, and it was looking like we were going to have a pretty computer based afternoon, but the generator maintenance staff had a surprise for us. Since they had run the generator all night, they decided it needed a rest, so at 5:45 we go warned that between 6 and 7 we would have no power. Though this inconvenienced much of the uploading that was going on in the studio, it forced us to getting off our chairs and get outside. I forced Leon to get his act into gear and start constructing the second camera taxi, a wheel barrow used only for the transport of camera equipment to and from the dock.

While Leon was doing the foam lining for the Camera Taxi, Claudia came and told me that the carpenters were all sitting around working on carvings. I ran inside and got my camera ready and we set out. We walked from the studio mover to the work area and saw the guys all sitting around working with wooden hammers, and chisels. They were using such large tools but doing such small work, it was amazing. They were very friendly and let us take photos of them working. They were doing an incredible job, they had already completed lots of sculptures, and multiples of each design. It was cool to see how even with basic tools they could be so accurate and precise.

(They All love their music)

Shortly after pestering the carpenters it was time for dinner, ad tonight was Eudon's birthday, and the crew here had a surprise for him. At the end of dinner they all came out with instruments, and a big cake and the party commenced. They are amazing musicians and their voices all go really well together. Soon after the cake had been distributed, they started a sort of conga line and everyone joined in. Claudia tells us that they don't celebrate their birthdays, they all love to celebrate ours. Another very unique and cool experience here.

(Happy Birthday Eudon)
